Symptoms that are often Neuroplastic

(or have a Neuroplastic component to them that may be helped by mindbody healing)

Source Credits:  Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms (ATNS),  “Diagnostic Guide for Psychophysiological Disorders” by Doctors Clark-Schechter-Schubiner, and the Stress Illness Recovery Practitioners Association (SIRPA).

  • Important Note: The symptoms listed here are considered neuroplastic only when they are persistent or recurring for 3+ months and do not have a structural or disease cause (see disclaimer below). In these cases, the nervous system is often in a prolonged dysregulated (survival) state (commonly reinforced by a pain–fear cycle and emotional stress in its many forms, both in and out of conscious awareness), and the brain has developed neural pathways that keep the symptoms going. The encouraging part is that, in many cases, the underlying causes can be addressed, the nervous system regulated, and these neural pathways retrained and reversed — allowing symptoms to decrease or even fully subside.
  • Disclaimer:  Clearly some conditions may have a more serious cause. To diagnose and safely treat any condition, it is necessary to first see a medical professional to "rule out" any structural or underlying cause (e.g., cancer, infection, tumour, fracture, autoimmune disorder, etc.). Once confirmed, you can then “rule in” a neuroplastic component by using this list and reviewing the assessment questionnaire and F.I.T. criteria on the home page of  www.migraineoasis.com.
