In this introductory course, you’ll learn the fundamentals of the mindbody approach to healing chronic pain and symptoms — often referred to as neuroplastic symptoms, mindbody syndrome (MBS), or Tension Myositis/Myoneural Syndrome (TMS).

You’ll discover:

  • The differences between traditional Western medicine (biomedicine) and the mindbody approach to healing.
  • What neuroplastic symptoms are, why they arise, and how they become chronic.
  • How the unconscious brain and nervous system play a central role in creating and keeping symptoms alive.
  • How different forms of stress and life experiences — such as childhood adversity, coping strategies like perfectionism or people-pleasing, being hard on yourself, trauma, overwhelm, worry, or fear-based thinking — can keep the nervous system braced in a survival state (fight/flight/freeze/fawn), triggering the brain to perceive danger to our very survival.
  • The latest neuroscience around chronic pain and symptoms, explained in clear, simple terms.
  • Evidence-based tools you can use right away to calm your system and move toward relief.
  • Clear next steps depending on where you are in your healing journey.

These concepts remain overlooked in traditional medicine, where the mind is treated separately from the body, and symptoms with "normal" test results and without structural or tissue damage, often get diagnosed without a true understanding of the root cause and deemed "medically unexplained.” Conditions such as migraine, fibromyalgia, digestive issues like IBS, chronic pain and fatigue, anxiety, and many more fall into this category (see full list here).
